About Levada do Lajeado

A gentle levada walk across the open Paúl da Serra plateau at around 1,400 m, one of the highest and quietest walks in the Calheta council. The channel runs through tree-heath moorland past small tributaries and a few little waterfalls, with sky-mirroring pools along the way. A short detour at the start follows the levada back to its source; the far end reaches a ruined aqueduct that once carried water to Pico da Urze. You return the way you came. Fog rolls in fast at this altitude, so pick a clear day.

Levada do Lajeado (L-LAJEADO) is a round trip route of about 3.8 km in Madeira.

What you'll see

Most of this route sits in shade, which keeps it walkable on days when open ground is punishing.

The sun and shade reading comes from the slope's aspect and steepness, so it describes terrain shading and not tree cover.
